The Weaving the Web program has delivered effective distance education to more than 3,000 students all over the world

The Weaving the Web program has been in operation since 1997 so it has a significant "track record." The courses are delivered through the British Columbia Institute of Technology, a fully-accredited post-secondary college in British Columbia, Canada. Accreditation guarantees the quality of the curriculum and the excellence of the staff. These courses are not being offered by a for-profit private company so every dollar you spend returns itself in service and quality.

Twenty-one Online Courses

The programs offers 21 online courses in Web design and Web development, including instruction in the following areas (click on each link to see a short description of that technology):

Our Alumni

Since its inception, the Weaving the Web program has delivered online distance education courses in Web Design to more than 3,000 students worldwide. We have served learners in Great Britain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Manila, China, and Japan, as well as almost every state and province in the United States and Canada. Many of our graduates now hold key IT (Information Technology) positions in large private and government agencies such as the BC Government, BC Hydro, TransLink, TELUS, the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB), the United Nations, Electronic Arts (the leading gaming company in North America), the UBC Biotechnology Laboratory, Malaspina University College, Langara College, University College of the Cariboo, College of New Caledonia, the University of Northern BC, Capilano College, and many other colleges and secondary schools in BC and elsewhere. More than 30% of our graduates now operate their own successful Web design companies.

Two Certificate Programs

You can choose the level of proficiency you wish to achieve from the two certificate options available. An Associate Certificate in Web Technologies may be achieved by completing 8 core courses and a Certificate is awarded after completing the Associate Certificate plus 8 advanced courses. The Associate Certificate is appropriate for those wishing to hold junior positions in industry, while the Certificate is designed for those who aspire to senior positions.

Build your Own Timetable

You may determine your own hours for study — the course interface is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and 365 days per year (24x7x365). Because so many of our students live in different time zones, no synchronous (in real time) options are included. The only deadlines you must meet are the assignment due dates — approximately one assignment every two weeks for most courses.

Full-time Study

While this program is essentially designed for mid-career professionals who wish to enhance their skillset while continuing to work full time, options are available to complete these courses on a full-time basis. Once the basic courses (MDIA 1205 OR 1206 AND 2205) are completed, you may take any of the remaining courses concurrently (i.e., at the same time). In addition, you may begin the second-level (MDIA 2205) course before entirely completing the first-level course (MDIA 1205 or 1206), thus allowing you to complete the "basics" courses in one term period. The six-week courses (MDIA 2205, 3201, 3204, 3205, and 3206) are offered twice each term and are also offered in the summer term.

Continuous Enrollment

Since more than 90% of the courses BCIT offers are classroom-based, BCIT still operates largely on a 12-term system with 4 terms per year (Fall Term, Winter Term, Spring Term, Summer Term). However, some of the online courses in this program (MDIA 1205 and 1206) are currently being offered using a "continuous enrollment" option. This means that you may enroll in the "basics" courses at any time and "fit into" the term system with the advanced courses as it suits your personal timetable. If continuous enrollment appeals to you, please inquire about it when you register.

Save Money and Time Studying Online

Most of the courses in this program are also available as classroom-based (face-to-face) courses at BCIT. However, if you live some distance from Vancouver/Burnaby or the BCIT campus, consider the costs of travel to and from BCIT for classroom-based instruction, the inconvenience of attending classes on a specific day and at a specific time, and other costs, such as parking, meals, and accommodations, involved in attending classroom-based courses.

If you have a flare for design and a desire to become a Web professional, BCIT's online Web Technologies Program is for you.

We hope to see you online soon.
